Sunday night’s Doritos vs Mountain Dew Super Bowl ad seemingly confirmed a major Game of Thrones fan theory about Tyrion – and viewers went mad for it
In the clip, Peter Dinklage (who stars as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO show) and Morgan Freeman came together for a rap battle, with Dinklage in the Doritos corner channelling Busta Rhymes and Freeman in the Mountain Dew corner paying tribute to Missy Elliott.
Surrounded by flames and even breathing fire at the end, the ad (titled ‘Doritos Blaze vs Mtn Dew Ice’ on YouTube) got some fans thinking the fiery backdrop surrounding Dinklage is a massive hint that Tyrion is a Targaryen, rather than a Lannister.
But Dinklage has now responded to the latest fan theory, saying it’s “stretching the limit”.
Speaking to HuffPost, he said: “I love every single theory the fans of our show have, because they’re so much fun.
“They get to show the dedication and love they have for the show, but you have to understand that it is a Doritos commercial. It’s not Game of Thrones.
“So [fans] are sort of stretching the limit with that theory when you’re branching out to Frito-Lay commercials. But I say that with all love and respect. Please, I love them.
He added: “I love the fan theories that they have until the show is finally over.”
But Morgan Freeman could still be the Night King, right? RIGHT?!
Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK CELEBRITIES & GOSSIP
